This song is inspired by a woman named Adelma Cifuentes from South America who overcame a severe case of Domestic violence, just like many of the millions of Latina women in South America face everyday. Up until 2008 there were no consequences for the abuser in a domestic violence case, cops turned the other cheek, their cases wouldn't hold up in court and there would be no jail time. Adelma Cifuentes's husband hired people to kill her after abusing her time and time again. They only shot her in the arm and leg and she bled out for 2hours until someone finally stopped to take her to get her help. Even after that the abuse continued, The abuser threatened to sexually abuse the kids if she didn't go off and die, eventually Adelma pushed hard to have her case hold up in court and successfully put the abuser behind bars. After months of pleading for help she was one of the first successful cases of Domestic Violence to attain justice leading to making domestic violence a crime punishable by law in Guatemala.
Women like Adela still to this day deal with bullshit like this story in several countries in south America, they still have a long way to go before they reach basic equality and justice . This song is about them and their struggle.
